In the Hunter-New England Region (HNE) of NSW, there is an urgent need for an upgrade to humidifiers in 11 hospitals in the region.
The John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children's Hospital is the principal referral centre and a tertiary hospital for Newcastle, and northern NSW. The 796-bed hospital is the main teaching hospital of the University of Newcastle, which means they need state-of-the-art medical equipment to train their clinicians to ensure they can provide the best care possible for their little patients. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Children’s Hospital and four nearby regional hospitals need AIRVO 3 humidifiers.
Humidification is crucial for babies and children suffering from respiratory problems such as bronchitis, pneumonia and cystic fibrosis. Humidified air and oxygen help these babies breathe restfully and clear their chests for ongoing treatment and recovery.
AIRVO 3 technology will make a significant difference to the health of kids in the Hunter. This lifesaving equipment will benefit kids in this region by:
For children in HNE regional hospitals like Tamworth, Maitland, Singleton and Manning, having access to AIRVO 3 units means they can receive specialised care closer to home. It reduces the need for long and often challenging journeys to Newcastle or Sydney, keeping families together and reducing the strain on the main hospital's resources.
The built-in battery in the AIRVO 3 allows children to move around the hospital more freely while receiving continuous respiratory support. This improved mobility can lead to better patient outcomes and reduced stress for the children and the hospital staff.
For children with chronic illnesses who must spend extended periods in the hospital, the AIRVO 3 technology significantly improves their quality of life. It enables them to attend school within the hospital and move around more freely.
The adoption of AIRVO 3 units aligns with the goals of the Humpty Dumpty Foundation. These devices facilitate smoother patient transitions and reduced downtime, which results in faster treatment and testing for children. In turn, this contributes to improved health outcomes and shorter hospital stays.
Humpty’s unique Wish List model is what sets us apart, giving donors complete choice and transparency in their giving, providing for communities close to their heart.
